Wrapping up residency interviews: looking back and reflecting

I am wrapping up one of the most, correction the most, stressful time of my life. For the last 6 months I have been involved in applying for residency I emergency medicine. The whole selection process is too backwards to explain here, but it is very confusing and I feel very powerless in the whole thing.

Overall here are some stats for me:
Number of interviews: 16 (plus 2 I declined)
Number of one-way flights I have taken related to residency applications: 19
Weeks away from home: about 14 for rotations and interviews
States I've been to since October: CA, NV, TX, NY, PA, MI, IN, IL, OH (3 of which I'd never been to before)

I had to pass up the opportunity to match into a program in Michigan for the chance to get into other programs that I like better. I'm not sure if that was a good choice or not, because ultimately my main goal is to get into a program almost regardless of location. I will find out on March 14 if I get into a program or not, so I still have an anxious few weeks before I even know how this will all work out.

I do have some shout outs to thank people who have let me stay with them during my travels. They have all helped me immensely and made all of this traveling a little bit more affordable. Thank you to:

Jim Hodgson
Ashley Confer
Erica Cacciopa
Ronnie Peshnick (SP?)
Justin Scott
And most of all Justin White and his girlfriend Johanna. They let me stay with them for a whole month, which was amazing. With them I had a comfortable place to stay and they helped me in making it not as hard to be away from home.

So I'm starting a blog

I've actually been tempted to do this for quite a while. I pretty frequently think about some pretty awesome stuff. And I often think "man that's an awesome thought/idea/ect., I wish someone else could hear it so that they could agree to its awesomeness". Thus I have decided to try this out, partially because I can do this from my awesome new iPad and that is reason enough to do anything. Also I think Facebook sucks.
